Applications

Phosphatases are hydrolase enzymes which remove phosphate group from other molecules. Measurement of phosphatase activity can be performed to detect phosphatase-active bacteria. In humans, elevated serum alkaline phosphatase levels have been associated with various diseases, such as biliary obstruction, bone conditions, liver diseases and leukemia.

Description

This chromogenic substrate is supplied as an orange brown powder. Hydrolysis of this substrate by phosphatase releases a soluble end product that is violet/blue in colour at pH> 9.5 and can be measured spectrophotometrically at 550 nm. Extinction coefficient of the released chromogenic product is 17,000 Lmol-1cm-1.
